Privacy policy

Updated October 5, 2026

Dark Sky Clock is owned and operated by ByteNik Solutions LLC. This policy covers darkskyclock.com, darkskies.app, clearskyclock.com, and our mobile apps. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to ByteNik Solutions LLC. Dark Sky Clock was created by David Pfeffer.

You do not need an account. We do not maintain a personal profile or a location-history database, and we have not added a separate analytics service. Providing forecasts, displaying maps, and supporting the service with advertising still involves processing some information, as explained below.

Location and forecasts

You can enter coordinates or choose a directory site without granting location permission. If you use device location, your browser or operating system asks for permission. Coordinates are sent to our forecast server to calculate the requested forecast. The app does not request background location.

On the website, Cloudflare may supply an approximate starting location based on your IP address. It is labeled approximate and is replaced when you choose another location. IP addresses are also processed to deliver network requests and limit excessive requests.

Location links include the coordinates you choose to share. A location map requests visible map tiles from OpenStreetMap, or a configured tile provider; tile coordinates identify the displayed area. Opening the larger map sends the selected coordinates to OpenStreetMap.

Map requests also disclose your IP address and standard request information to the tile provider. Read the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy for its data handling and retention practices.

Information saved on your device

Selected locations, favorites, chart settings, and measurement preferences are saved in browser storage or native app preferences. You can remove this information by clearing site data or app data. Forecast requests are temporarily cached to make the service faster.

Advertising and Google services

We use Google AdSense on the website and Google AdMob in the mobile apps to support the service. When advertising is enabled, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, device identifiers, IP addresses, device information, advertising interactions, and diagnostic information to deliver and measure ads, prevent fraud, and personalize ads where permitted by your choices and applicable requirements. An IP address may be used to estimate a general location.

Our advertising integration does not pass your device's precise GPS coordinates or selected forecast coordinates to AdMob as ad-targeting parameters. Website URLs can include forecast coordinates, and Google advertising code running on a page may process page information. Our forecast service, hosting provider, and map provider process the information needed for their respective functions.

Where applicable, Google's consent message lets you choose whether to consent or manage your options. You can revisit available choices using “Privacy and cookie settings” or Google's “Do Not Sell or Share” link. In the apps, “Privacy and cookie settings” opens Google's privacy-options form when available. Non-personalized ads can still involve cookies or identifiers for measurement and fraud prevention.

Read Google's privacy policy and how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services. You can also manage advertising preferences in Google My Ad Center and your device's privacy settings.

Hosting, retention, and your choices

Our hosting and network providers, including Cloudflare, process requests to operate and protect the service. Operational errors may be logged for troubleshooting. We do not require a user account to view forecasts. Saved device preferences remain until you change or clear them; third-party data retention is described in those providers' policies.

Read Cloudflare's privacy policy for its network and security processing. Forecast caches are temporary and are not a record of an individual person's movements. We do not sell forecast coordinates or saved preferences. Advertising providers' data practices and available opt-out choices are described above.

You can decline device location permission, choose coordinates manually, clear local data, and use the advertising privacy controls available to you. These controls do not remove information already processed by independent providers.
